Landsat8 on the Fire Map

Георгий Потапов

There are continuously going bush fires in Australia. Each day there are hundreds of large wildfires all over the World. In our service, using NASA Lance API we download Modis fire products, clusterizing hotspots by additional algorithm in order to filter minor and false ones.

And yet the World knows nothing we’re also importing Landsat 8 imagery by intersection with global fire clusters. As soon as Landsat metadata becomes available on Nasa service — we search for certain imagery in the range of + — 24 hours from the last fire cluster hotspot. If there are any matching results it should be downloaded and published on the «fire map» for free user access.

Check it out and we hope it may be usefull to help or just facilitate the hard work of fire management and fighting.

  1. The sheer extensiveness of the data set, having that calibrated data, reaching back in the past and also ensuring that we have the data source well into the future so we can continue this exercise, is an outstanding benefit to resource management provided by Landsat, said Quayle.
